Samer Choucair: Data Centers Have Become the Backbone of the Global Digital Economy

Investment entrepreneur Samer Choucair said that growing interest from Gulf and global institutions in the data center sector reflects a fundamental shift in investment priorities in the coming years, affirming that digital infrastructure has become one of the most important strategic assets in the modern global economy.

He explained that Dubai Holding’s study of investing in Hscale, a company specialized in developing data centers and backed by Bain Capital, represents a clear indicator of this sector’s growing importance in the region, particularly amid the accelerating rise in demand for AI services, cloud computing, and data storage.

He added that the Gulf states possess exceptional fundamentals qualifying them to play a pivotal role in this field, including strategic geographic location, available energy sources, and the ability to execute advanced infrastructure projects according to the highest global standards, noting that these factors make the region an attractive destination for long-term investment tied to the digital economy.

Choucair affirmed that Saudi Arabia stands out as one of the most promising markets in this sector thanks to major digital projects and the continuous economic reforms within Saudi Vision 2030’s framework, which have helped strengthen the Kingdom’s appeal to global technology investments and support the growth of digital infrastructure.

He noted that specialized estimates project strong growth in the Kingdom’s data center capacity in the coming years, driven by the expansion of AI applications and cloud services, alongside increasing demand from companies and government and private institutions for advanced data solutions.

He added that future competition won’t depend only on building new data centers, but on developing high-efficiency facilities relying on the latest cooling and energy management technologies and environmental sustainability, explaining that investors focused on innovation and strategic partnerships will be best positioned to achieve sustainable returns over the long term.

Samer Choucair stressed that the current stage represents an important opportunity for investors and entrepreneurs to enter the digital infrastructure sector, whether through partnerships with specialized global companies or by investing in technologies supporting data centers, renewable energy, and smart solutions.

The investment entrepreneur concluded his remarks by affirming that investing in data centers is no longer just a technical trend, but has become a core pillar for economic diversification and strengthening global competitiveness, projecting that the Gulf in general, and Saudi Arabia in particular, will see accelerating growth in this sector in the coming years.
