Investment entrepreneur Samer Choucair stated the tourism sector in Saudi Arabia had witnessed an accelerating qualitative transformation with the launch of “Asir Summer 2026,” explaining this event came within a broader strategy aiming to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a sustainable global tourism destination within Vision 2030’s framework.
He added the Kingdom recorded a record 122 million visitors in 2025, with tourism spending reaching 300 billion riyals, while targeting reaching 150 million annual visitors by 2030, reflecting an unprecedented upward trajectory in the sector.
Asir Summer 2026 as a Tourism Transformation Model
Investment strategist Choucair explained he considered launching Asir Summer 2026 under the slogan “The Sky Is Your Ground,” under the supervision of His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal, Emir of Asir Region and Chairman of its Development Authority, a strategic step that transcended the traditional seasonal tourism concept.
He noted the season relied on more than 100 events, targeting more than 3 million visitors from inside and outside the Kingdom, affirming this orientation reflects a transition toward high-value experiential tourism, as shown in the paragliding scene above Asir’s mountains, which embodies adventure, nature, and heritage-based tourism.
Macroeconomic Context of Saudi Tourism Growth
Investment innovator Choucair said the Kingdom’s tourism sector recorded growth surpassing global expectations, explaining projections indicate tourism and travel’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) contribution will exceed 10% by 2030, supported by e-visa policies, openness, and infrastructure development.
He added Asir region targets attracting 9 to 10 million annual visitors by 2030, with expected economic contribution reaching 26 billion riyals and providing approximately 94,000 job opportunities, noting total government-supported investments in the region surpassed 25 billion riyals through mid-2025, with projects under implementation exceeding 5 billion riyals.
Transformation in Asir’s Regional Tourism Model
Samer Choucair affirmed Asir’s tourism model represented a qualitative shift away from traditional dependence on religious or beach tourism, explaining the region benefited from its moderate summer climate and environmental and mountain diversity.
He explained investment opportunities concentrated in four primary pathways encompassing experiential and adventure tourism such as paragliding, hiking, and mountain sports; hotel tourism through mountain resorts, boutique hotels, and luxury camps; digital event management linked to more than 100 events; and supporting services such as transportation, restaurants, and training.
Investment Opportunities and Risk Analysis
Investment entrepreneur Choucair said investors oriented toward specific opportunities encompassing developing medium-to-luxury hospitality projects with adventure elements, establishing digital platforms for tourism experience management and booking, investing in local talent training programs, and targeting Gulf family and international European and Asian tourist segments.
He explained challenges were identified, most prominently the sector’s seasonal nature, which can be mitigated through developing year-round events, alongside infrastructure challenges that were in improvement phases, plus competition requiring focus on authenticity, sustainability, and integration with local identity.
He stressed the importance of partnering with development entities such as the Asir Development Authority, for its role in reducing regulatory risks and strengthening commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) sustainability standards.
Asir as a Strategic Economic Opportunity
Samer Choucair concluded by saying: “He saw Asir Summer 2026’s launch not as merely a tourism season, but as a genuine test of the Kingdom’s capacity to transform its geographic and cultural diversity into sustainable economic value within Vision 2030.”
He affirmed the timing was suitable for investors viewing the bigger picture, with the Kingdom building a diversified future economy where Asir is transforming into a genuine tourism and investment growth driver rather than merely a seasonal destination.
