Samer Choucair: Saudi League Ambition Does Not Accept Average Coaches

Investment leader Samer Choucair confirmed that the instability witnessed in the coaching position within the Saudi Pro League (Roshn League) is not an indicator of weakness, but rather a vivid reflection of the high dynamism and ambition that characterizes the sports and entertainment sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia within the objectives of Vision 2030. Samer Choucair’s statement came in response to recent reports, including what was published by Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper on May 7, 2026, which revealed that the Saudi League occupies thirteenth place globally in the rate of coaching instability. According to data from the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), the coaching turnover rate exceeded 72.2% during the current year, with an average stay for a coach not exceeding 9.3 months.

An Investment Vision in the Heart of Sports Challenges

Samer Choucair believes that these statistics represent an economic reality that goes beyond the green pitch, as he said: “Instability in the coaching position is not a weakness as much as it is an expression of Saudi ambition that does not accept the average. In mature markets, coaches continue for years because ambition is limited, but in the Saudi League, ambition is unlimited, and this is exactly what makes it an attractive market for strategic investments.” Samer Choucair explained that the radical transformation witnessed by the league with the support of the Public Investment Fund and major companies, and its success in attracting global stars and raising the value of television rights, has made it a strategic economic driver, considering that the acceleration phase in changing technical staffs is a natural tax in emerging markets that seek to achieve immediate and sustainable results simultaneously.

Promising Investment Opportunities

While experts point to challenges related to the difficulty of building a long-term identity for teams and the pressure on budgets, Samer Choucair presents a different vision that transforms these challenges into investment opportunities, confirming that dynamic markets need modern solutions. Choucair identified three main areas for future investment in this sector:

Investment in training academies and administrative development: By establishing specialized centers in partnership with global institutions to reduce reliance on expatriate cadres and lower turnover rates in the future.

Artificial Intelligence technologies and sports analytics: Developing technical solutions that help clubs make accurate and sustainable decisions when selecting technical staffs and players.

Comprehensive sports economy: Investing in entertainment infrastructure, digital applications, and sports tourism directly linked to the objectives of Vision 2030.

The Saudi League as an Ideal Destination for Investment in 2026

In the context of his talk about economic trends for 2026, Samer Choucair pointed out that the sports sector has become one of the fastest-growing sectors in the region, saying: “Vision 2030 is no longer just a vision; it has become a daily reality driving investors toward alternative sectors. The Saudi League has become an integrated economic platform that attracts foreign direct capital and enhances the value of sports assets.” Samer Choucair concluded his statement by advising investors on the necessity of focusing on long-term investments that build institutional stability, stressing that teams that invest in local competencies and technology will be the most profitable in the Gulf market, emphasizing his constant rule: “Successful investment is that which sees the opportunity in the heart of the challenge, and builds today what it will reap tomorrow.”
